Our aim is to make disciples of Jesus Christ in the student world and therefore, sharing the good news is an integral part of CU life.
• Jesus commanded it – (Matthew 28:19-20)
• Jesus himself spread the good news – (Mark 1:14-15)
• When we recognise how amazing God’s grace is, we will other to know the same - (Ephesians 2:8-10, Mark 5:20)
• We want to explain to others what we believe because we know it to be true - (Peter 3:15)
• We are bound to tell others - (Romans 1:14-16)
• Because we’re running the race towards eternal glory - (2 Corinthians 4:17)
We aim to equip the members of the CU to be able to evangelise effectively in their personal lives as well as organising outreach events to bring your friends to hear the gospel.
We organise a lot of outreach events specifically designed for sharing the good news of Jesus to friends and students. Please get involved and find out about anything asap.
We also aim to put on other events as we feel are required, if you have any ideas, requests or suggestions, please let us know!
Remember:
An outreach event without friends to bring is not an outreach event at all!
Jesus came to serve, and on a Saturday night we visit the student union club to serve tea, coffee, hot chocolate, lollies etc to students leaving the club. This is a great way to share your faith and you will be surprised at students who think it is strange to get something for nothing!
It is a great way to make your faith real, whilst at the same time, it’s not as daunting as it sounds, its normally great fun!
Going out onto the campus and quite simply, initiating conversation with students about their beliefs and sharing the reason for your faith with them. It is all done through a great questionnaire that you can stick to or deviate from as you want.
It may sound pretty scary if you’ve never done it before, but everyone says it’s not as scary as it sounds and it does indeed raise questions in people’s minds.
A larger scale event ran once or twice a term, includes a bar, some food and drink, a gospel themed talk (such as “Jesus: deal or no deal?”) some live music and other events to bring your friends to.
It’s a chilled out evening specifically designed for friends and course mates that haven’t heard the gospel or have shown an interest but are too afraid to come a CU meeting or church event!
Everyone has questions they want answering, especially people who are trying to find out just who or what God is. At lunch bars, we invite a speaker to talk on a difficult subject that students want to hear about. Hopefully sparking debate with your friends as well as equipping the CU with a Christian response to a particular situation.
Food is also provided. Lunch bars are normally held on a Friday.
An easy way to bring your friends to a CU event without them even knowing about it. Joke! This is a standard secular pub quiz with a short inspirational talk about Jesus and his claims. Prizes and peanuts come as standard and if you want to be on the question team, please let us know!
It is normally held in the Glo Bar or Sub Bar and is of course free for anyone to come to, no admission charge.
