Main Meetings

“For when two or three are gathered in my name, there am I in the midst of them” – (Matthew 18:20)

Every Wednesday night at 7:30pm we have our main meeting. Although the meeting has different formats and content each week, it is an opportunity to meet together to worship and learn about Jesus; a time of encouragement, teaching, growing and equipping ourselves for God’s work on campus.

A normal CU meeting would consist of a talk from a local speaker (usually preaching on a specific series throughout the term), a time of singing praises to God, hearing some feedback on learning about various projects and CU events that have been going on, a time of prayer and some encouraging and useful evangelism training designed for students at university. There’s normally a pub visit after the meeting to sit around and chat.

In our main meetings for the first term, we will be looking at some biblical characters whose lives can have an impact on us through the way they served God and encountered problems along the way. We will be looking at Abraham, Joseph, Moses, David and Solomon.

The main meetings will be held in the Sub Bar. The Sub Bar is the downstairs bar in Student Union building (Byron House). To get to the Sub Bar, go down the stairs below the cash machine following the sign!

Small Groups

“Surely you heard of Him and were taught in Him in accordance with the truth that is in Jesus” – (Ephesians 4:21)

Every Monday night we hold small groups throughout the city. Small groups are exactly that; small groups of Christians meeting together to study the bible, learn more about Jesus and support each other in the daily struggle that it is to live as a Christian in the student world.

In our small groups we will be looking at the book of Galatians. We will be looking at what it really means to be a Christian at University and will cover the 'living' part of our mission statement. There will also be an opportunity to study the basics of Christianity in a course called Christianity Explored. This is ideal for new Christians or people who really want to get to grips with the basics to help them speak to non-Christians at University.

The first small group will be held on 16th October. If you are interested in joining a small group, email the CU at exec@trentcu.com or look for us on the Freshers’ Fayre.

Prayer Meetings

Life is fragile, handle with prayer

Seven days without prayer makes one weak

To get nations back on their feet, we must first get on our knees

The bible instructs us to be devoted to prayer and for good reason! It was the angel that fetched Peter out of prison, but it was prayer that fetched the Angel! If we truly knew the power of prayer then we would certainly pray more than we do.

We want to become a praying CU, praying for the decisions that are made, the events that are put on, the fellowship of our members and the students and friends within the city as well as lifting God’s name up high.

Our weekly prayer meeting will be on a Monday morning at 7:30am, early I know, but there is no better way to start a week! The location will be announced shortly. Bring your bibles and share together God’s graces as well as learning more about Him. Oh, and breakfast will be provided!

Houseparty

Once a year we leave the confines of Nottingham to visit an adventure camp in Northamptonshire for a weekend.

We have talks from a speaker who stays with us throughout the weekend, normally preaching on a book from the bible from start to finish. We also have workshops on biblical topics and worship together. It is a great time to learn more about each other, ourselves and more importantly, more about Jesus and what He has done!

The houseparty is always great fun with loads of activities and games to keep us interested! We also get to share the fun with our brothers and sisters in Clifton.

Carol Service

What do you think of when you think about Christmas? Cute babies? Straw and mangers? White halo adorning angels? Men with strange gifts wearing fake beards?

Well, the bible tells a story of death, judgment, penalty, and fortunately for us, a guy called Jesus, who yes, was born is a manger, but who is also our Lord and King.

In the Christmas term, the CU joins up with the Clifton Christian Union to perform a service that is true to the gospel

In previous years it was been greatly attended by large numbers of people and has been both full of the great festive atmosphere but, has also left people challenged to find out more about exactly who this Jesus person is. It is a great event to bring your coursemates, housemates and anyone else you can find on the streets to.

Football

“For once you were children of the dark, but you are now children of the light” – (Ephesians 5:8)

The Christian Union, despite its small size, has a quite formidable football team. It’s a fantastic way to bring some coursemates and friends to an event and meet other Christians without being too hardcore. Also, nowhere could be more useful for living out the Eph 5 challenge than on the football field!

We also play matches against local churches and some Nottingham University folk have started playing/losing to us over the past couple of years. Nothing like a bit of healthy competition!

Girls are welcome too!

CU Ball

Towards the end of the year we hold a ball!

It’s a chance for everyone to get dressed up and go out for a night to reminisce on the year and talk about friendships forged, as well as an excuse to try out your best moves on the dance floor.

This night is always a lot of fun with great food and great company!
